Management and Administrative Structure: Geopark Municipalities Union

Konya Karapınar Geopark is managed under the umbrella of «Geopark Municipalities Union» in order to provide a sustainable and corporate management model. This administrative model, based on the Local Government Unions Law No. 5355; It is carried out with the participation and joint decisions of local municipalities, governorship and relevant development agencies.

The main articles of the union's charter include the establishment of a geopark, the protection of geosites, the support of scientific research and the development of geotourism.

Project; It is carried out under the supervision of a large Advisory Board consisting of geoscientists, geographers, biologists and tourism experts who are experts in their fields, administrative staff and scientific coordinators. The scientific base and field operations of the project are strongly supported thanks to the cooperation protocols made with Konya Governorship, Metropolitan Municipality, Karapınar Municipality, Konya Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate and our universities.

The primary goal of our management is; To enlighten the public, especially the local people and young people, about geoparks, geological heritage and environmental awareness.

Our Vision and UNESCO Goal

Karapınar; Geologically, it is a geography that shows the climatic and landform changes of the past and present in the clearest way, almost like a diary of world history. In line with the Local Action Plan prepared within the scope of the Konya Karapınar Geopark project, a management area at UNESCO standards has been created.

As an important step in our goal of taking part in international networks, our letter of intent has been submitted to the UNESCO Turkish National Commission. Our goal with international training programs, coordination studies carried out with global geopark networks and local awareness projects; To make Konya Karapınar Geopark an official UNESCO Global Geopark.

This international registration; It will be a historical turning point not only for our region, but also for the protection and branding of our country's natural assets on a global scale.
