Geological Heritage, Natural Assets and Sustainable Future
Konya's Karapınar region; It is home to world-class valuable terrestrial natural assets with its fascinating geological history, unique biodiversity and deep-rooted cultural texture. The most distinctive feature of the region is the rare landforms formed by millions of years of volcanic activities, tectonic movements and karst processes.
Especially the Meke Crater Lake, known worldwide as the "Evil Eye Bead of the World", Acıgöl with its impressive geological formations, volcanic cones and the sinkholes that form the characteristic structure of the region, are of great importance in the international scientific community.
In addition to this unique geological richness, Karapınar and its surroundings; It also stands out with its unique steppe ecosystem, endemic plant species and historical Silk Road routes. In order to bring together awareness of geological heritage conservation, sustainable tourism and local development, the Konya Karapınar Geopark project was implemented under the leadership of local governments and scientists.
Our Borders and Geographical Scope
